What is HDTV?

HDTV – high definition television. They often are 1080p and 720p.

Television has become an integral part of human life. It is hard to imagine to live life without television, unless if you are a caveman or a nomad. It is in the TV, or boob tube as referred by some, that we can see shows beamed from TV stations or in movie players. Shows entertain which makes us forget our stressful lives. There is news to keep us informed of current events. There are also educational and health programs to broaden our mental horizons. No wonder TV is a big hit!

But how did television came about? This is a good question for the boob tube did not come out suddenly in a complete setting. TV is a device made possible by the sweat and intelligence of different people in the old eras. The birth of television became possible after the improvements of electrical and radio science. From Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, the inventor of the electric telescope, in the late 1800s to Philo Taylor Farnsworth who created the first electronic television system in 1927, modern television emerged. However, TV sets after those times are in black and white. Then color TV entered the world and everything changed.

HDTV or High-Definition Television is the next big step in the history of TV. HDTV is a TV set that displays higher image resolution than traditional televisions. HDTVs transmit 720p, 1080i or 1080p resolution. The images shown on the panel display of HDTVs are lush and vibrant. Contrast levels are well-defined. Blacks are deeper and highlights are brighter.
