Plasma technology utilizes electrically charged ionized gases contained in small cells to display images on screen. Plasma Display Panel or PDP are common to large HDTVs with a 30-inch screen or larger. That is the reason why people see many large-sized plasma TV models. Plasma displays has a brightness level of 1,000 lux of higher and wider color gamut than the other panel displays.
The screen of plasma displays is made of glass. This reflects light and is the reason why glare is formed on screen which comes from reflected objects nearby. This might be affected by a trend toward large-screen televisions.
There was a plasma display monitor invented in 1964. This was invented by Donald Bitzer, Gene Slottow and Robert Wilson for PLATO Computer Systems. But the real success of plasmas came after the development of digital technology and other innovations. Then in 1992, Fujitsu Limited announced the first 21-inch full-color plasma display which was developed at the University of Illinois at Urabana-Champaign and NHK STRL.
